Outdoor sound is a different discipline from indoor installation — there are no walls to help contain sound, weather is a real risk to equipment, and power is often unreliable. This guide covers how to size, power and protect a PA system for outdoor events in Kenya, from small weddings to large festivals.
Sizing the System to Crowd and Distance
Outdoor sound loses roughly 6dB every time distance from the speaker doubles, with no walls to reflect and reinforce it the way an indoor room does. Systems need to be sized generously compared to an equivalent indoor event.

Delay Towers and Coverage
For large or long outdoor grounds, a single stack at the stage can't cover the whole crowd evenly without being uncomfortably loud up front. Delay towers — additional speaker stacks placed further back and time-aligned to the main system — extend even coverage without the front rows being blasted.
Power Planning
Outdoor venues rarely have reliable grid power matched to the load of a full PA and lighting rig. Power planning failures are one of the most common causes of outdoor event sound failures in Kenya.

Weatherproofing Equipment
